Plaza Midwood Neighborhood and Area Information for the Charlotte Real Estate Market
Plaza Midwood is truly one of the most distinctive and eclectic neighborhoods that you will find in Charlotte – and it has a fiercely loyal residential population to boot!
Located northeast of uptown, the Plaza Midwood area is known for its distinguished homes and its bustling business district.
This area is also beloved for its walkability as well as its commitment to unique and local businesses.
In fact, in 1992, the western part of Plaza Midwood (which, generally speaking, runs along The Plaza, Thomas Avenue, Pecan and Clement), was designed as a Local Historic Distirct.
Located on The Plaza, is the historic Vanlandingham Estate, one of Charlotte's finest hotels. Today, it serves as a bed and breakfast, wedding venue, conference center and more.
A Brief History of this Charlotte Neighborhood
Originally established as a streetcar suburb of Charlotte in 1910, Plaza Midwood thrived for most of the first half of the century.
During the 1950s, the community experienced a bit of a decline.
But in 1975, the Plaza Midwood Neighborhood Association was established to build the community back up to its former days.
Beginning in the mid-1990s, the area started seeing a dramatic reinvention, with more and more investors coming to the area to fix dilapidated houses and open new businesses.
Investing in Plaza Midwood Real Estate
The neighborhood gets its name in part from The Plaza, which is a beautifully-maintained boulevard that runs north to south.
The latter part of the name comes from Midwood, which is one of the larger communities within this area. In this community, you’ll find charming bungalow-style homes that date back to the turn of the century.
Mature vegetation, including pin oaks, dot this community throughout and crepe myrtles line the sidewalks.
This is definitely a community that takes great pride in its history.
In all, there are more than 1,400 homes in the Plaza Midwood area, ranging from 1 to 6 bedrooms with varying price points.
