Thornhill Homes for Sale
The Thornhill community was built in the early 1990's. UCD was the first builder, and built most of the homes in the community. In later years, David Weekley completed the community. There are 2 entrances, one, which I would call the "main" entrance located on Elm Lane - just across the street from Stonecrest Shopping Center and the other entrance located on Ballantyne Commons Parkway.
Enjoy the natural areas and woods that have been preserved, including the 23-acre historic landmark - Big Rock Nature Preserve. It is hard to imagine that there are 23-acres in the middle of this community. On the one side, you hear the lull of traffic from I-485, on the other side, you hear children's laughter coming from the pool area. This big huge granite boulder plays a part in the history of Mecklenburg County, where the American Indians gathered for shelter, campsite and meeting place. Historic artifacts have actually been found on the property. If you haven't been here, you should really come check it out.
For information about the Thornhill Community Homeowners Association and info on the covenants and restrictions, you can go here.
This is an extremely active and proud community. The Thornhill Women's Association is tasked with all of the social aspects of the community. This would include activities such as socials, clubs, luminaries, parties (Halloween, Easter, Christmas), dinners, bazaars and more.
Enjoy splashing at the neighborhood pool, having a picnic under the huge stone Pavilion, or playing tennis.
There's lots of great shopping across the street at the Stonecrest Shopping Center (Target, Harris Teeter), loads of restaurants (Dean & DeLuca, Miro Spanish Grille, Firebirds to name a few), fast-food, banks, speciality shoppes and more. Just down Rea, you will find shopping at Blakeney Shopping Center or down Ballantyne Commons Parkway, you will find shopping at Ballantyne. You are truly in the "middle".
Some of the best schools in Charlotte, schools in South Charlotte have a reputation for high academic performance. Visit Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools to get more information about the schools that are assigned to this community.
Thornhill offers something for everyone - a great place to call home!
